Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When she was young the carnival barker father passed away and left her mother with no choice but to become a cleaner woman and waitress to support her family. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she attended school. She only attended school for two years before leaving to pursue her acting career. Her journey was not without obstacles. her chosen career path. In New York she was hired to pose for photos for a publication about crime and drama, however no theater job opportunities came up. While in New York, she worked in a bar as an entry-point girl, before quitting and moving back to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make enough money by working as an usher throughout the day, and at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She was a drama student in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
